It was a beautiful summer/late spring Sunday with temps in the mid 70s, and a cool breeze as always at the Danbury Cricket Ground. Lots of fans came to support their local team, young kids and even neighbors from Brookfield came for the first time. The day began with the Danbury Newstimes meeting the guys as they featured us in 2 articles this weekend. One on Saturday as a precursor to the article this Monday:

The game itself began with the Under 30s in a heap of trouble. A double wicket strike in Atif Zafar's first over, followed by another wicket from Adeel Syed, and soon a few more from Jamal Khan and Asrar Ahmed, and at the water break, the Under 30s were crawling to 66 for 5 in 15 overs. Kashif Rizvi who scored 28 and Mazhar Islam steadied the ship after a flurry of early wickets. Then the last 15 overs saw 124 runs amazingly. Mazhar Islam continued his steady innings and top scored with 60 and Muhammed Adeel joined him for some fireworks at the end with 40 not out. The Under 30s posted an enormous 190/8 after being 25 for 5 at one stage. A Recovery of a Lifetime !!

The Over 30s knew in order to chase this total it would definitely take some batting and application from their senior players. The innings didnt start well as we also lost early wickets and were 12 runs for 3 wickets. Ali Kirmani steadied the innings with a nice 24 that saw some lusty blows. Sathya Singh supported him nicely with 20 but was taken at long on to a good catch from Farooq Akthar. Atif Zafar contributed with 20, Jamal Khan with 17, Ali Ahsan with 13 and new comer Fayaaz Khan with 16. But the disciplined opening spell of Abid Zafar and Mohammed Waqas, along with good spin from Mazhar Islam, Saief Chowdhury, and Rizve Ahmed bogged down the Over 30s and we never were able to attack the bowling. Fasisal Sadiq and Abid Raza also scalped a wicket each. Over 30s finished the innings with 159/9 from their 30 overs and lost by 31 runs.

As always Mr Extras led the show with plenty of wide deliveries from both sides. This is due to lack of practice and our goal this summer is to get our batting cage so that we can practice on a consistent basis. Lets get this project going so we can improve our game from all aspects. More to come on this end...

Great show all around, lovely dinner (chicken biryani) from Habib Khan's mother, we all really appreciated that !! And special thanks to all the fans who came to support !!
